Catching Atoms in the Act: A Journey into Quantum Research

17:00 - 18:30
Vortrag

Dr. Ramasesha will introduce the audience to the dynamic quantum world of electrons, atoms, and molecules. She will explain how scientists use ultrafast laser techniques to create “movies” of some of the fastest processes in nature, and how these experiments help uncover the fundamental mechanisms behind new materials, chemical and biological processes, and cutting-edge technologies that impact our daily lives.

Dr. Krupa Ramasesha is a chemist and research scientist at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California. She was selected by the U.S. Department of State as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Austria for the 2025–2026 academic year and currently serves as the Fulbright-NAWI Graz Visiting Professor in the Natural Sciences at the Institute of Experimental Physics, Graz University of Technology. In her research, she uses ultrafast laser spectroscopy to capture the “fingerprints” of highly reactive molecular species and to study ultrafast processes on femtosecond to picosecond timescales – work that spans gas-phase photochemistry, interfacial charge and energy transfer, and molecular materials.

An event in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy Vienna.
